Jennifer Cohen will always consider herself to be twice blessed.

In 2003, Jennifer Cohen went into preterm labor at just 26 weeks of her pregnancy with twins. After five weeks of total hospital bed rest and herculean medical intervention, her daughters Sydney and Alexandria were born almost 10 weeks premature. Sydney was 3 lbs. 3 oz. and Alexandria was just 2 lbs. 14 oz. at birth.

After another five long and scary weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Memorial Hospital West in South Florida, the girls went home without any complications from having been born so early. Thankfully today, Sydney and Alexandria are healthy third graders who are active volunteers in the South Florida community.

The grateful parents created The Sydney and Alexandria Cohen Foundation, Inc.,  a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization created to help thousands of premature babies year after year. The Foundation has been raising funds to donate state-of-the-art GE Omnibed Giraffe incubators to the NICU so future premature babies will have the best chance at a healthy life.
The Giraffe is the most advanced and developmentally superior incubator available today and combines design and state-of-the-art technology to create an unsurpassed healing environment for premature infants. It also allows for multiple procedures to be performed in the main isolate, eliminating the stress of moving critically ill infants from bed to bed. These incubators are superior to what Sydney and Alexandria spent the first weeks of their lives in and and will save more babies in the South Florida community.

“Giving back is the best way I could think of to honor, celebrate, and show my extreme gratitude for my healthy daughters,” said Jennifer. “This is my way of paying it forward.”
